Get to know Alicia:

Alicia enjoys cooking for her friends and family, practicing yoga, spending time with her dog Barrett, film photography, interior design, and will find any excuse to spend time outside. She loves exploring new creative outlets and is currently enjoying learning the ins and outs of pottery and making her own candles.

Therapeutic Approach:

Children, teens, young adults and families will all find a place of safety and support with Alicia. She uses humor, compassion, and warmth, making therapy welcoming, affirming and engaging.

One of Alicia's niches is working with elementary age children and their families, honing her skills in her prior career in early childhood education. Alicia loves utilizing play and art therapy approaches in conjunction with CBT to work with young  children, allowing them space to explore different emotions creatively while deepening their capacity to tolerate a range of feelings with more resilience. Alicia channels her inner child to join younger clients in their playful self-exploration, creating a therapeutic space that encourages felt safety. Becoming part of their world and allowing children to be empowered in therapy is one of the key tenets of strengthening their emotion regulation skill. Alicia uses coloring/painting, games, and role playing in session, and parents are encouraged to be part of this playful process both in sessions with their children, and in parent sessions.

Alicia believes the relationship you build with yourself is the most important one. She uses a strengths-centered approach to help you reach your goals and thrive.  Alicia incorporates therapeutic modalities best suited for each individual client and their needs including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectal Behavior Therapy, Narrative Therapy, Mindfulness, and Solution Focused Therapy. She understands everyone has a unique path, and she is passionate about helping her clients move through challenges and live the lives they love. Alicia admires every individual’s decision and commitment to find their best version of themselves through therapy.

Professional BACKGROUND:

Alicia’s education began at Iowa State University where she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. During her time at school, she began working at a juvenile residential facility where her passion for working with adolescents was ignited. After graduating Alicia moved back home and began working at a residential facility for adolescents with eating disorders in Minnesota. She realized she wanted to continue her desire to help adolescents and young adults navigate through life’s struggles by becoming a therapist. Alicia worked at a private practice helping children, adolescents, adults, couples, and families during her time as a student as she received her Master of Arts degree in Counseling and Psychological Services from Saint Mary’s University of Minnesota. Shortly after she moved to Texas to work as a registered behavior therapist for young children with Autism. Alicia looks forward to continuing learning and growing as she helps children, adolescents, adults, and families through life’s ever-changing path.
